1st Time

Located on the East Bank near ‘The Flats’ lies a coffee shop dedicated to entertainers who died at 27 (AKA the 27 Club). My friend Sarah and I went to visit our friend Sophia who attends CWRU. Us ‘3 Musketeers’ love coffee so we (after Sophia recommended it) ultimately decided on the ’27 Club.’ Sophia gave us background on how this was started by Machine Gun Kelly-a Cleveland native-which we thought was cool.

We walked in and immediately loved the decor. The environment reminded me of a rebel youth with a hot pink and purple palette, skulls, devil horns, etc. The logo of a pink skull with the name on it is portrayed as a mural right outside on the brick wall. There’s another photo op right near the entrance with a halo and devil horns.

This is not just a coffee shop-27 Club also offers cocktails going with the theme such as ‘You Know I’m No Good’ and food such as breakfast, flatbreads, and sandwiches. Many people around us got flatbreads.

We put in our order and then given a number with a name on the back (ours was Nipsey Hussle). We sat on a black sofa seat which was in the wall. It was neat!

Drinks

There are 3 specialty lattes. Sophia ordered the ‘Pink Latte’-a regular latte but has pink milk which is not flavored with a pink sugar rim. I got the ‘Diablo Latte’-a latte with charcoal in it and had a sugar purple rim. It was weird to me and the barista said that it ‘detoxifies the inside of your body’ whatever the hell that means but I got it anyway to be adventurous! Sarah ordered the ‘Black Swan Mocha’-a mocha infused espresso with a drizzled mocha swan on top. Every one of us enjoyed our drinks. Mine was silky smooth…I can’t describe to you how the latte tasted but it was pleasant, moreover, I could not taste the whole milk.

Overall, our experience was great! The rebel rock music playing in the background really made the theme more youthful and we had a conversation with ease. While there are many coffee shops to try in Cleveland, I hope to come back to this one soon.
