My Experience

I decided to take my grandparents with me to Ohio’s 76th and newest State Park: Great Council. Like Malabar Farm State Park, this one is more of a learning experience than recreational.

When we got there, we immediately noticed the statue of Tecumseh in front of the interpretive center which housed many exhibits displaying information about the Shawnee Indians and the European Settlers. Among the exhibits is a theater playing a video on the history of the Great Council area and Old Chillicothe. It really is a neat video to get your feet wet before you explore the rest of the park.

Overall, the interpretive center is packed full of historical and important information as well as captivating statues (such as the Panther at the entrance) and exhibits (such as the living water stream ).

Outside is a valley which displays the ‘Memorial to Tecumseh’ stone and a trail going deep in the field full of flowers. This field was honestly one I would frolic in haha. It was truly beautiful especially on a sunny, cloudless day.

Nearby, after you visit this park, I would highly recommend visiting Yellow Springs which is one of the best small towns in Ohio, in my humble opinion.
