First Visit

  • Things Tried: NOLA Coffee, Wild Blueberry Shakerato, Dude Bun, Key Lime Sugar Cookie

My family and I decided to go to Heartwood Coffee Roasters on a free Wednesday morning. When we arrived it was JAM-PACKED! All the tables were full and chatter filled the air. Having no idea what we wanted we looked at the menu quickly as we moved up in line. There were about 6 people working behind the counter. We all decided to try something new (except my brother).

My mom ordered a NOLA (New Orleans Style Coffee with Chicory and Cinnamon). I got the Wild Blueberry Shakerato (espresso with their wild blueberry sauce shaken over ice with some brown sugar) and my sister got a chocolate latte (her first espresso based drink) and my brother got a hot chocolate.

There was hardly any room to move around so we waited (along with numerous others) by the entrance door. I also ordered a Dude Bun (a plain doughball/donut covered with loads of cinnamon) and a Key Lime Sugar Cookie.

The NOLA was really good-can’t complain. It had hints of cinnamon here and there. The shakerato I won’t recommend unless you get a glass of milk with it. It’s very strong, bitter, and definitely tasted of wild blueberries. When I poured milk into it at my grandparents house (there to play our usual bouts of euchre), it was much more tolerable/smooth and didn’t dissipate the blueberry flavor.

The Dude Bun was good. Somewhat dry. The Key Lime Sugar Cookie barely had any key lime flavor.

Overall, cute shop with a top floor for more seating, lots of coffee/tea items, and bakery options, as well as food such as avo toast. It was a pleasant experience but will I come back? I don’t know.
