Introduction: So my goal is to do every recipe in this Betty Crocker Cookbook from 1996 lol so here goes

Prep: 15 min Bake: 25 min

Makes: 16 Brownies

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 Cup Shortening
  • 1 Cup Packed Brown Sugar (I used Granulated but please don’t…it doesn’t really dissolve)
  • 1 Tsp Vanilla
  • 1 Large Egg
  • 3/4 Cup All-Purpose Flour
  • 1/2 Cup Chopped Nuts (I used Almonds)
  • 1 Tsp Baking Powder
  • 1/2 Tsp Salt
  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease the bottom and sides of square pan, 8x8x2 inches with shortening
  2. Melt shortening in 1 1/2 quart saucepan over low heat; remove from heat. Stir in brown sugar, vanilla and egg. Stir in remaining ingredients. Spread in pan.
  3. Bake 25 minutes. Cool slightly in pan on wire rack. Cut into about 2 inch squares while warm.

Taste: Like dry oatmeal. The butterscotch, rather, was the color not flavor.

Comment: Bella, these weren’t the greatest but they weren’t bad. They were just…meh. Looks almost as dry as they taste. Are you sure you did this correctly?
